I don't know if it is because the software is working well or what? I placed a page up on MacUpdate.com, and within 24 hours I have had over 500 downloads and counting. This is not including direct downloads from my website or updates. That is really great, especially if you compare that to the 1,800 total downloads for X360 ISO Hacker by WATTks (not to mention the horrible user comments).

The feedback that I have been getting is great! Most of the comments I have been getting have said "Your software works great, but..." and describes some silly little GUI problems... Is that all? I have been listening and most of the GUI issues have been fixed, along with some other fixes that I have been working on.

I should have another build ready, but I want to hold off for some new features. I am awaiting Redline99 (Creator of Xbox Backup Creator) to send me some example code to enhance the stealth checks and iso creation and extraction functionality.

And if you are still reading this, go ahead and give me some comments. Test results have verified the software works on PPC and Intel.
After a few days of coding and much helpful testing by Skel28 from mac-bb.org, I have successfully made OSx360 run on Mac OS X 10.4 PPC. For some reason, the current release is failing to run properly on 10.4 PPC due to some differences between the two architectures. I hate to put out so many updates, but I think it would be worse to leave you with no updates for over a month even though much progress is being made.
This update is just the tip of the iceberg! OSx360 can now read the full xbox file system (and it will do that when you open an disc image), yet I have not finished the GUI that will allow you to extract the file system. What it can do is check the default.xex for region flags and the MediaID (which is used for stealth checks). That's right! No more burning a disc image just to find out it is the wrong region!
As for stealth checks, with the new features allowing xbox file system reading, the MediaID (located within the default.xex) is now verified against the DMI and SS, and the SS is now checked for the absence of a Hitachi SS.
On top of that, I added a nice new GUI to display some of that data (or just to prove that OSx360 does what it says). Also, a Log file is created in "~/Library/Logs/OSx360.log". It can be viewed with the Console application. More Logs are going to be written in future versions to assist in troubleshooting problems.
Many problems with disc image validation have been fixed, mostly having to do with the differences between Xbox 360, Xbox 1 Xtreme, and Xbox 1 images. Xbox 1 images can be read, but are not readable by the Xbox 360 due the absence of data that was not needed for most modified xbox 1 consoles. OSx360 will not allow these to be burned, but it may allow rebuilding of the iso in future versions.

OSx360 v0.5 Alpha Released!

<dc:subject>News</dc:subject>

Sorry about the wait... I didn't really know how hard it would be to learn objective-c/cocoa and create a usable program at the same time. Here is my newest release, and although iso checking has not improved much, a lot more has been (mostly compatibility issues for OS X 10.4 and below).
OSx360 now allows you to choose between burn methods. For Mac OS X 10.4 and above, you have the option of Apple's DircRecording Framework or growisofs. For OS X 10.3 and below, you can only use growisofs (due to a limitation in Apple's Disc Recording Framework). The application handles most everything automatically. The media must be a blank DVDR+DL be allowed to burn the disc image. Your drive must be able to burn DVDR+DL media to be able to be selected. If a drive has the appropriate media and is ready to burn, it will be automatically selected for you.

Understand that this program has grown quite quickly and although I believe this application to work well, it still has some kinks to work out. If you would like to help me out by testing the software and reporting your results, it will be much appreciated. If you want stability, I would recommend using OSx360 v0.1 Alpha. I am only releasing this software for test purposes - hence the "Alpha" status.

I will be working on improved stealth verification and improving the growisofs GUI (I have not programmed it to understand burn failures). I will also be working on code optimizing to minimize the likelihood of future code errors.

OSx360 v0.5 Alpha set to release tomorrow!

<dc:subject>News</dc:subject>

I have built a new front end GUI for both growisofs and Apple's DiscRecording.Framework. As long one single piece of data doesn't take up more than 2GB, I should be fine. Even if there is, I can still use this method to process the data in smaller pieces. I have also created a functional SS/PFI/DMI extraction code (It still doesn't verify the data), and will have that in the next release along with the ability to inject the SS/PFI/DMI data as well.
I would also like to thank everyone who has either tested or helped me with this project. It's only been two days but it's looking promising. Anyone interested in helping out with this project, either with programming knowledge or graphic design, please contact me at justin@nukedsoftware.com or msg me on http://xbox-scene.com/ or http://www.xboxhacker.net/ - screen name 'WolfieNuke'.

OSx360 Development Status

<dc:subject>News</dc:subject>

I have hit a slight snag in my coding process, it seems that unless I use 64bit code, I might not be able to overcome a 2GB file size limit. I am currently using NSData as my way of peeking around files, but that has a file size limit of 2GB unless I am coding for a 64bit application which may be a little more than I can handle now. I am looking at some other options but it seems that creating an iso utility may be held back until I can come up with a solution. I could go 64bit, but that would just be one more thing to learn and may be too difficult at the moment. On top of that, it may leave some users behind (even though all current Apple computers are 64bit and have been for quite some time).

Released OSx360 - A Mac OS Native Xbox 360 Disk Image Burner

<dc:subject>News</dc:subject>

Last night I was up trying to get a quick application made that will allow me to burn Xbox 360 disk images without the need to modify or patch the files before attempting to burn a disk. I found that the DiscRecording.Framework that Apple's Disk Utility uses has an option to set the L0 Layer Break. As far as I know, there is no Mac application that allows you to manually set this property. After a few hours of searching for ways to code this (I am fairly new to Objective-C and Cocoa), I created a simple app that does exactly what I needed it to. After one burn failure (due to attempting to burn a patched image), the software successfully burned a Xbox 360 image. This morning I decided to spread the word so I can find out if this method works for more people. Please be sure to tell me how the software works for you.
